PrintPlast is delighted to announce our newest collaboration with Four Seasons Hotel Mykonos: a collection of custom wooden hotel key cards unlike anything a guest has held before. Cut in the soft, organic silhouette of a Cycladic beach pebble and illustrated with hand-drawn scenes of island life in deep cobalt blue, these cards turn the very first moment of a stay — the key placed into a guest's hand — into something warm, personal, and unmistakably Mykonian.

Mykonos is an island of white walls and blue accents, of windmills turning above Chora and bougainvillea spilling over every doorway. The design brief from Four Seasons was beautifully simple: let the key card feel like the island itself. No glossy plastic, no generic rectangle — a small piece of Mykonos, crafted in wood, that guests would want to keep.

A Shape Borrowed from the Shoreline

The first thing guests notice is the shape. Instead of the standard CR80 rectangle, each card is precision die-cut into a smooth, asymmetric pebble form — the kind of stone you pick up from a Mykonos beach and carry in your pocket without quite knowing why. The organic outline sits naturally in the hand, its rounded edges finished to the same tactile smoothness as sea-worn stone.

Custom shaping is one of the most distinctive things we do with wooden cards at PrintPlast. Because our cards are cut and finished individually, virtually any silhouette a brand can imagine — a pebble, a leaf, an island outline — can become a fully functional RFID key card. For Four Seasons Mykonos, the pebble was the obvious choice: geometry that whispers "island" before the artwork says a word.

Three Scenes of Island Life, Drawn by Hand

Across the collection's three artwork faces, a single illustrated love letter to Mykonos unfolds in hand-drawn cobalt-blue line work, UV-printed directly onto the pale wood grain:

The Windmill — Chora's iconic windmills rise above sugar-cube houses, framed by a cascade of bougainvillea. The Pelican — a proud pelican struts down a narrow village lane, a wink at Petros, the island's beloved feathered mascot. The Donkey — a man leads his donkey past whitewashed steps and a shuttered window, a scene of everyday island life that has not changed in a century.

The sketch-like line quality is deliberate. Rather than polished vector graphics, the illustrations keep the energy of an artist's travel notebook — quick, warm, human. Against the natural variation of real wood grain, every card in the run is subtly unique, exactly as hand-crafted objects should be.

Guests receive one of the three designs at check-in — and we already know what happens next: they compare, they trade, they collect. A key card becomes a conversation, and a conversation becomes a memory of the stay.

A Back Face That Speaks Every Language

Turn the card over and the personalization goes a step further. The reverse carries a crisp blue QR code with a simple invitation: scan to chat with the hotel in any language. One tap of a phone camera connects guests — whether they arrive from Athens, Tokyo, or São Paulo — to the hotel's guest-messaging service in their own language, from the moment they reach their room.

Beneath the code, the Four Seasons tree emblem and the "FOUR SEASONS HOTEL MYKONOS" wordmark are printed with quiet restraint. It is a masterclass in doing more with less: one small wooden object now welcomes the guest, opens their suite, answers their questions, and represents the brand — beautifully.

Inside the wood lies a fully encapsulated RFID inlay, encoded on the hotel's existing lock infrastructure exactly like a conventional card. Room access, facility entry, and charge-to-room all work with a gentle tap — the technology disappears into the craft.

"A first impression is made once. When a guest checks in after a long journey and is handed a smooth wooden pebble painted with the island they came to see, something changes in their face. That is what hospitality design is for."

Why Custom-Shape Wooden Key Cards Win Hearts

The Mykonos project captures a shift we see across luxury hospitality: the guest credential is being reimagined as a brand storytelling object. A custom die-cut shape breaks the pattern of sameness the moment the key changes hands. Destination artwork roots the stay in its place. Natural wood replaces single-use plastic with a material that is renewable, biodegradable, and simply nicer to touch.

And unlike plastic cards, which end their life in a drawer or a landfill, wooden art cards get kept. They travel home in wallets and jacket pockets, resurface months later, and quietly remind guests of the island — organic brand presence that no loyalty email can match.

Crafted by PrintPlast, from Sketch to Check-In

Bringing the collection to life meant uniting artwork, material, and technology without compromise. Our team calibrated the UV print so the blue line work sits crisply on the wood without masking its grain, tuned the die-cut tooling to the pebble's asymmetric curve, and verified RFID read performance on every single card — because a beautiful key that fails at the door is not a key at all.

The result is a guest credential that meets the Four Seasons standard on every axis: design, feel, function, and sustainability. From the first sketch of a windmill to the moment a receptionist places the finished card in a guest's palm, every step was crafted to make that first impression warm and personal.
